Mussina is the ACE in Philly!

Philadelphia – (AP)    Philly GM Chris Holt thought long and hard before he ended up dealing HOF catcher Ivan Rodriguez and a young stud pitcher in Brad Penny in return for Mike Mussina and A.J. Pierzynski.  He realized he needed a legitimate ace to bolster the Phillies staff if they were going to make a title run.  However, not even Holt could have envisioned what Mike Mussina has done early in the year.

Mike Mussina is off to one of the best starts in the history of the CBL.  Mussina is 6-1 with a 1.19 ERA.  He has logged 60.1 IP while only surrendering 29 hits and only walking 11 batters.  In 7 starts, Mussina has thrown 6 complete games and two shutouts.  Mussina has thrown four 3 hitters against four different teams, the Cubs, Braves, Mets, and Padres.

Mussina’s hot start has fueled the Phillies.  Philadelphia sports a 26-12 record and are currently enjoying a 6.5 game lead over the second place New York Mets.  If Mussina can manage to win 21 games this year, Mike will be only the 5th pitcher in CBL history to post 200 career wins, joining the likes of Roger Clemens, Greg Maddux, Randy Johnson, and Kevin Brown.
