ALDS White Sox vs. Mariners Series Recap

The Series was played face to face on Saturday October 4, 2003 in Algonquin.  Tom named Curt Schilling as his Game #1 starter, while the Mariners tapped 20 game winner Jamie Moyer. Both pitchers spin jems as niether team really threatened to score. In the bottom of the 7th Brian Giles took the first pitch of the inning deep to give the M's the 1 - 0 lead.. That was all as Buddy Groom came in to get the save as the M's won 1 - 0

In Game 2 Tom choose Mark Buehrle to even the Series for the Sox and steal Home Field Advantage. Jason Schmidt instead of 20 game winner Joel Pinerio was selected by the M's.. The Mariners struck first as Suzuki lashed a triple and Edgar Martinez doubled in the 1st. The White Sox tied the score in the 3rd as Posada walked. Craig Counsell bunted Posada to 2nd. Ray Durham then doubled to tie the game at 1. . In the 4th inning the Sox took control. After Helton's Ground out and Lee's Fly out, Hernandez Singled. Valentin split the gap between Giles and Cameron to drive home Hernandez.. Posada then singled home 
Valentin to give the Sox's the 3 - 1 bulge. Posada's Ball Park Homer (he 
rolled a 2) ended the scoring as the White Sox evened the Series at 1

Game 3 we switched to "The Cell" as the Home field. Nomo was named to pitch for the M's, while Kip Wells looked to give the Sox the Series lead.. In the 2nd inning the Sox jumped on Nomo. After a Helton ground out, Lee singled.  Hernandez struck out. Thomas worked Nomo for the 2 out walk. Posada doubled and Lee as well as Thomas were running with the pitched both scored. Crede then singled driving home Posada.. After a Durham single, Finley struck out to end the inning. In the 3rd the Sox added to their lead as Helton, Lee and Thomas all walked. A nomo wild pitch with Posada at bat made the lead 4 - 0. 
The M's came back to tie it in the 4th. A Rod homered, Delgado walked, Hillenbrand Singled, Lowell Doubled to drive in Delagado, Davis grounded out driving in Hillenbrand, and Cameron singled in Lowell to tie the game at 4.  The roof then fell in on the White Sox as the Mariners added 11 more runs in the next 4 innings. The final was Mariners 15 White Sox 7.

Once again Moyer faced Schilling. Once again both pitchers pitched well. In the 4th inning the Mariners took control. After Suzuki flied out to open the inning, Jose Vidro turned on a 2 - 2 pitch by Schilling and sent it over the Right Field wall for the 1 - 0 lead.. Giles followed with a walk. A Rod then hit his 3rd Homer of the Series to Center Field to make it 3 - 0.. The M's added to the lead in the 6th as A Rod scored on Hillenbrand's homer to make it a 5 - 0 edge.. The Sox pushed accrossed 2 in the 9th on walks to Lee and Thomas and A durham double. But Groom reliewved Moyer and got his 2nd save of the Series by getting Finley to fly out to Cameron to end the game 5 - 2.

With the Mariners winning both at "The Cell" the Series went back to Seattle. Again the Sox turned to Buehrle to stem the tide. Once agaIn the M's choose Schmidt to pitch instead of Pinerio. The White Sox jumed out in front as Durham walked, stole 2nd and scored on Finley's Home run. Sadly that was all of the Sox offense for the day. Meanwhile the Mariners drew even on Vidro's Single, Martinez's HBP, Conine's Single, and A Rod's 2 run double. Conine was throw out at the plate by Lee trying to score the go - ahead run. In the bottom of the 5th Lowell doubled, and scored on Cameron's Home run. Edgar Martinez finished the Mariner scoring with a RBI single in the 8th as the Mariners win the game 5 - 2 and win the Series 4 to 1.

Jamie Moyer was named Series MVP as he was 2 and 0 pitching 17.3 innings giving up 2 runs (both earned) on 18 hits. Groom with his 3 saves and A Rod 10 hits in 16 ABs with 2 doubles and 3 HR's tied for second.
